Get Back to Work!

So… no blog post last week.

It’s kinda interesting how much I feel like I need to explain why I missed last week, but I’m not going to. It’s not because I don’t want anyone to know (there is a perfectly legitimate reason) but because I feel like it’s actually a good topic to cover here.

There are lessons in this situation.

Firstly, there is no actual reason to tell you why. Just because I write a blog, and you read it, doesn’t mean I have any obligation to explain myself. When I started writing here again a few weeks ago I hadn’t written for MONTHS, and when I started up again I just started. Explaining myself would have served no purpose, all that really matters is that I started again.

Second, explanations often just cover the truth up. At many points in our lives when we miss an obligation we often try to justify our actions, we’ll spend time and effort trying to cast ourselves in a favorable light. Or we end up beating ourselves up and descend into a spiral of guilt and negativity, which often has the result of missing more of what we missed in the first place! Both are a waste of time and effort.

Did you forget to blog? Start writing the next one!
Did you miss a workout? Get back to the gym!
Did you mess up your diet? Just make sure your next meal is clean!

Whatever you should have been doing, just shut up and get back to doing it! Don’t make excuses, learn your lesson (or make an adjustment), and get back to work!
